Classic Hollywood Cinema

3 examples of Classic Hollywood Cinema
  • Casablanca
  • Psycho
  • King Kong

Why is Classic Hollywood cinema formalist rather than realist?

A variety of film techniques are used in classic Hollywood film, continuity editing for example is a formalist element. Continuity editing gives the illusion that the viewer has the best view in the house. Fading in and out is also unrealistic though it tries to give a simple quick changeover from one scene to the next.
